A domestic contract is an agreement struck between married, or unmarried couples, where the parties crystallize on paper what they both expect from the relationship, and what will happen in the event of a separation, or the death of one of the parties.
Domestic contracts will typically define what each party wants in terms property division (if any), sharing of expenses, sharing of income, or the treatment of debt, should the relationship end.
Domestic contracts, or domestic, agreements, are the only legal means of avoiding the, sometimes arbitrary, property division and support, provisions of the Family Law Act.
